Our Goals

By 2022

We aim to have:
  • Created awareness among landholders of where Albert's Lyrebird and Marbled Frogmouth are likely to be found
  • Promoted better management of critical areas of habitat by assessing key threats and providing advice to landholders
  • Improved the public fauna record for both species
  • Encouraged landholders to restore or improve habitat and  connectivity between population strongholds
  • Established 10 demonstration sites for best practice habitat management and share those stories with other landholders
  • Encouraged landholder to develop restoration projects and apply for grants when they are available
  • Promote the protection of critical areas of habitat through voluntary conservation agreements with the Biodiversity Conservation Trust.

How will we achieve these outcomes?

Step 1: Call for interest from landholders within the geographic range of both species, primarily focusing on Kyogle, Ballina, Lismore and Byron shires.

Step 2: Establish a wildlife motion camera and acoustic monitoring program across registered properties.

Step 3: Monitor for both species for two breeding seasons to to establish presence and abundance.

Step 4: Work with landowners to develop habitat management plans to address threats including fire, weeds and habitat fragmentation

Step 5: Select 10 properties to implement demonstration works to manage key threats and promote these examples in the wider community

Step 6: Establish landholder clusters in critical areas and help apply for funds to implement habitat management plans.

If you don't have Albert's Lyrebird or Marbled Frogmouth at your place, but are keen to help or stay informed, you can contact Ashley to register your interest. Our iNaturalist program is open to anyone and can be used to record sightings in national parks as well as on private lands
